Basil’s Blog: Summertime Fun

Basil-summertime-blog.jpg

Despite this week’s dreary weather, which I’ve been observing through the window from my newly found vantage point atop of my crate, I’ve been very much enjoying my very first summer.

Through the powers of Facebook, I’ve discovered a special group devoted to squishy, flat-faced dogs like me, which hosts monthly meet-ups across Essex and Kent. Luckily one of their walks takes place at my favorite hangout so myself, mum, her friend and my pint sized pal Matilda (pictured with me above) joined a host of French Bulldogs (which I often get mistaken for), British Bulldogs, Pugs and my fellow Bostonians for a snort-filled, grunty walk through the picturesque surroundings of Weald Country Park in Brentwood, Essex. The humans do lots of chatting while us dogs spend an hour or so chasing tail, bum sniffing, wrestling, jumping into streams, running like the wind and generally having lots of fun. I've made a pal in Jake - another Boston who's pictured with me below on the right. If you’ve got a squishy faced dog like me, join their group and get details of your local walk HERE.

Continuing my quest of hanging with the hounds, I attended the sixth Dogs Trust Honours Awards last week along with over 20 other dogs and their humans to hear tales of bravery and heroics from the world of dog. I stood in awe and admiration, as I listened to the winning stories short-listed from hundreds of entries from across the UK - read Barkarama’s review of the Honours Award.  Awe aside, the event was also supposed to be a celebration of the unique relationship between us furry folk and you human lot so I got my kicks chomping on Alpha & Ruby’s pupcakes, making eyes at TV vet and founder of anti-puppy farm charity Pupaid Marc Abraham, who told me I was a nice boy, and even Tweeted my my pic (below) to all his followers. I also enjoyed a terrier tumble with George Styletail – dog in chief at online magazine StyleTails

This weekend I’m off to my coastal retreat – the grandparent’s home on the Wirral Coast so I’m looking forward to playing on the beach and trying out my water wings (I need to tick go for a swim in the sea off my bucket list), plus without the competition of my cat brothers I’ll be getting all the attention #livingthedream. Inspired by my retreat, we’ve created a virtual wish-list of nautical-inspired items over on Pets Pyjamas, as part of their blogger’s picks summer feature. View our selection HERE and take the hint grandma!
