Woof Guide: StyleTails & PipsDish Dog Lovers Sunday Lunch

Sorry for our blogging absence. Basil and I have been caught up in a social whirlwind, culminating with the inaugural StyleTails and PipsDish Dog Lovers Sunday Lunch, which we attended last Sunday in London’s Covent Garden.

As doggy outings go, this relaxed, friendly and tasty afternoon has soared to the top of our ‘fun things to do you with your dog’ list, and is a must-do for modern dogs about town and their owners …

Should any of you be thinking isn’t it illegal to take dogs into restaurant, it’s not, unless they have an open kitchen, so your dog’s admission is purely down to the proprietor’s preference. Luckily for us dog lover and PipsDish owner Philip Dundas, is happy to welcome well-behaved dogs into his dining establishment – and on this particular sunny Sunday he welcomed 11 of them, and what an impeccably-mannered pack they were.

With Philip, StyleTails’s editor Sara and her canine sidekick George as our hosts, Basil, my friend Mel, her gorgeous Doxie/JRT cross Jack and I were welcomed into this intimate setting, to enjoy a delightful few hours chatting #dogownerproblems and life with a friendly bunch of owners and their hounds.

While the dogs were the focal point of the afternoon, the food definitely enjoyed its moment in the spotlight. PipsDish has a no menu policy, which if did make me a tad apprehensive as while I’m not an overly fussy eater, I do have clear likes/dislikes. However, I needn’t have worried, as everything was delicious – Basil’s meal included – and if there was something you didn’t like the sound of, the staff were happy to offer an alternative.

To start, Mel and I enjoyed a seasonal vegetable salad with caramelised walnuts, followed by beetroot and sumac-marinated lamp rump with balsamic roast potatoes and Kentish asparagus for our main, and chocolate and raspberry clafouti for dessert. To quench our thirst (it was a hot day after all), we treated ourselves to a lovely bottle of Prosecco and while we quaffed and scoffed, Basil and Jack tucked into their own dinner of meat and potatoes, which Basil inhaled at lightening speed.

Happily stuffed, it was time for a spot of shopping in StyleTails’ pop-up designer boutique in PipsDish’s private dining room where little Jack received a petwear upgrade, trotting away in a new Hiro + Wolf collar and lead. While Basil lucked out on purchases this time round, he didn’t go home empty-pawed, as each guest received their own doggy bag filled with delights from StyleTails and PipsDish.
