2013 in Review: Reflecting on Our Hound Highlights

Well 2013 it’s almost time to say goodbye. However, before we throw ourselves at 2014 with gusto, we’re pausing to reflect on all the great things to have happened over the past twelve months. Here’s some of our hound highlights …

Basil completed 17 of the 50 tasks from his doggy bucket list with recent additions including chase a cat during a dream, join in a football game in the park, try to follow a squirrel up a tree, be in a family portrait (more of that to come) and have a stand off with your own reflection.

Basil conquered his toileting demons. Prior to his first birthday, our beloved Boston Terrier had a pre-disposition to doing his business wherever he fancied in our home until he met Bark Buster’s Jo Milgrew that is. Discover how Jo helped us in our Behavioural Therapy and Dog Training for toileting issues post.

We were humbled and inspired at the sixth annual Dogs Trust Honours Awards. Read tales of the UK’s most courageous and heroic hounds in our Dogs Trust 2013 Honours Awards review.

We appeared alongside fashion and dog bloggers such as Thank Fifi and The Stately Hound in Pets Pyjamas’ Stylish Bloggers’ Pet Wishlist feature.

We helped give a dog a home. In August, we received word that we’d help secure a home for five-month old Staffie Evie formerly known as Cilla after her new owner’s friend saw her in our Give a Dog a Home feature. Read our post about this Mayhew Animal Home dog adoption success story for more heartwarming details.

For a good cause (Battersea Dogs Home), Basil and I took part in the annual Paw Pageant at Old Spitalfields Market but failed to win over the judges in the ‘Best on Six Legs’ category.

Basil Barkarama turned one! Find out what he got up to on his first year in his special birthday post.

We gave ourselves a makeover. In October, we kissed goodbye to the bubblegum Barkarama of old and said hello to the cleaner, simpler, easier-to-navigate blog you see before you now. Under our new guise, we’ve enjoyed sharing our pup culture and modern dog lifestyle posts so much more and we love that it incorporates more of Basil – spot the Boston Terrier silhouette and read Basil's blog

Basil tried his paws at dog modelling in his very own professional dog photo-shoot with the fantastic team at Tilly’s Studio. To view his best Dogue and Blue Steel poses read his dog modelling post.

We discovered and met a host of new dog brands, products and doggy people in 2013 including Charley Chau, Pup Tart, Lovesniffys, Houndworthy, Arts Sea Craft Sea and the gorgeous David Gandy to name but a few.

Basil met Santa Paws at Lily’s Kitchen’s dog-friendly Christmas Grotto.

Basil will be giving the inside scoop on Essex in a dog-friendly travel book out in May 2014. More of that to come next year!

Most importantly, we’re thankful that you have been along with us for the ride. We’ve had a blast and hope you have too. What’s been your hound highlights from 2014? Do tell by commenting below.
