2014 in Review: Barkarama’s Best Bits

We don’t need Facebook or Instagram to tell us our 2014 highlights – we know what they are. So before we launch ourselves into 2015 (a fragile head is holding us back), we wanted to share some of our 2014 best bits. We hope you also enjoyed the ride …

We crowned Hungarian Vizla Otty our Pup Personality winner - a deserved win thanks to his hard work raising funds for a canine disease called Polymytositis. Part of his prize was this handsome portrait by artist Ros Shiers.

Basil blagged his way into Crufts where he mostly spent the day road-testing beds in the shopping area (sorry Poppy & Rufus and Charley Chau – he’s got no shame), as well as getting his first taste of doggy massage. See what else he got up to in our Crufts 2014 review.

We introduced Cat-arama - our monthly/whenever we fancy homage to the other furry boys residing at Barkarama HQ. Browse Cat-arama for our favourite bits of all things cat.

In National Pet Month, we got busy with our own charity initiative to raise funds for the Dogs Trust and Support Dogs. Our efforts raised just over £100 for each charity so we were pretty chuffed!

Basil and I appeared at this year’s All About Dogs show in Brentwood, Essex where we judged the best dressed dogs in the county, organised a ‘Ruff-le’ for £600+ worth of prizes and best of all, Baz puckered up in a retro kissing booth, managing to raise £51 for a local rescue centre by selling over 100 kisses!

Phileas Dogg’s Guide to Dog-Friendly Holidays in Britain hit bookstores across the country and included Basil’s guide to dog-friendly Essex. If you don’t already have a copy, this is a great buy if you want 2015 to include plenty of canine adventures.

Basil Barkarama passed his Pets As Therapy assessment with flying colours, and we have been regularly visiting a local home for the elderly for the past six months and LOVE IT! Basil recently treated the residents with a Christmas Eve appearance as Santa Paws.

We enjoyed some splendid doggy socials including PetsPyjamas’ VIP launch of “The Company of Dogs’’ celebrity photo-exhibition in aid of the Dogs Trust; StyleTails and PipsDish Dogs Lovers Sunday Lunch one fine sunny afternoon in London; Dogs Unite charity dog walk, which saw Basil and his mate Attlee of Phileas Dogg blog don super-dog capes to trot round the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to raise funds for Guide Dogs; plus Love My Dog’s Old Spitalfields Paw Pageant where we invited to ‘repawt’ live from the Front Row.

Basil tried his paw at professional dog modelling in a shoot for one of our favourite luxury pet companies Mungo & Maud, as part of their Autumn/Winter campaign.

We spread our blogging wings, guest writing for the Independent, StyleTails.com and Made in Essex newspaper, sharing our product picks and dog travel know-how.

We found our inner puppy Zen at a beginners canine massage workshop with the Canine Massage Guild. Read about our newly acquired skill in our dog massage review.

We ended the year on a high with Basil being welcomed into the cool canine creative collectif Marlene’s Gang. View Basil’s sugar skull inspired woof of art, and meet the rest of the crew at Marlenesgang.co.uk.

Thanks so much to everyone who has been part of our fun-filled year! We wish you a happy, healthy, fun and prosperous 2015. Now until tomorrow, we’re off for a lie-down.

Love Alex & Basil xxx
