Event: Bring Your Dog to Work Day

Top of the to do list w/c 23rd June: ‘Get boss to allow the dog to join me at work this Friday’. Yes that’s right dog lovers, this Friday 27th June sees the UK’s first ever Bring Your Dog to Work Day.

Created by Butch & Bess and LoveSniffys to help raise funds for three animal charities – All Dogs Matter, Animal Asia and Pup Aid, Bring Your Dog to Work Day asks participating businesses and dog owners to make a small online donation to join in what promises to be a fun day …

We think the case for a dog in the office is obvious – dogs rock, FACT! However, should your boss need some convincing, here are a few pointers to help negotiate your furry best friend joining the workforce for the day:

  • It’s a one-day a year request! Obviously if their presence is a success, there’s room for manoeuvre for on-going visits – wellness woof woof Wednesdays perhaps?
  • Dogs help reduce stress and make you happier – science says so! Many scientific studies have concluded that the presence of pets can substantially reduce a person’s stress levels in the workplace. Increased job satisfaction, team co-operation and morale have all been reported in employees that spend the workday with their pets
  • You will all the prep work - checking if any colleagues are none to keen on dogs; puppy-proofing the work space and bathing your dog the night before to ensure they’re smelling their sweetest
  • A high standard of petiquette will be key to the day with your promise to supervise your dog at all times and ensuring that no toileting accidents or unwelcome attention are ‘gifted’ by your dog

If the man (or woman) from the top office ‘say yes’, simply donate £2 or more, and submit a photo of your dog along with a description of their work duties so it can be added to the ‘Dog with a Job’ hall of fame. You can choose to split your donation across the three charities or send the funds to just one. Businesses can also donate and support the good paws, visit Bringyourdogtoworkday.co.uk for more details.

Sign up and you’ll be helping:

All Dogs Matter – a charity that rescues and re-homes more than 300 dogs a year in London, Norfolk and the surrounding areas. The dogs in their care are either strays, are relocated from pounds, or simply come from owners who can no longer keep them. A mixture of foster homes and kennel spaces are used to take care of the dogs.

Animals Asia – an international charity devoted to ending the barbaric practice of bear bile farming. It’s also dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs and cats in China and Vietnam.

Pup Aid – who work to drive awareness, and end the practice, of puppy farming in the UK. Last year it launched an e-petition to help ban the sale of young puppies and kittens, unless their mothers are present. Well over 100,000 people signed the e-petition and the topic is guaranteed debate in Parliament.
